(Re)Started a podcast!: The Power of Doing Things Now

Hi guys! It's me, AiTommy✨️

Yep, that's right—I’ve launched a podcast again! I posted six podcasts/video essays on my YouTube, then I kinda abandoned it.

You might be wondering, “Why? What happened this time?”
Well… just give it a listen first. You can check it out right here.
In the podcast itself, I talk about what pushed me to start it, but in this blog I want to dive deeper into one key idea behind it:
Why is it so important to begin things the moment you feel that spark?
I Do Many Different Things—And None of Them Fall From the Sky
As I talked about it in the podcast, my work is pretty diverse.
Sometimes I work with clients.I earn a little from YouTube.I sell art courses.I have a merch shop (though it’s been very quiet lately). And in the future? I want more of my income to come from illustration and writing.
So at the core, I’m a creator. But the way I use my art, how I earn from it, and what opportunities I pursue—those are all things I have to piece together myself.
Because I’m self-employed, nothing magically arrives. No boss hands me projects. No system guarantees income. I have to constantly discover opportunities and act on them.
So ever since graduating college, whenever I see a chance—even a small one—I try to jump on it quickly.
Sometimes it backfires (like buying a gadget I barely used…), but most of the time, trying something new becomes an asset. Even failures teach you something that becomes useful later.
Why Trying Is More Valuable Than Waiting
I see so many people say they want to start something but don’t know where to begin—or they’re scared of failing. I see it on social media constantly.
But if something doesn’t require a big investment, I think trying is the most important step.
This podcast, for example, costs almost nothing. I already had a super cheap mic (under $20). I use the free version of CapCut for editing.
Same with drawing. A pen and paper is enough. You can draw on your phone. Honestly, you could do everything from your phone. You can create a lot of contents with your phone, if you truly wanted.
Yes, better equipment is great, but you don’t need it to start. You can always upgrade later if you really need to.
The biggest hurdles are motivation and fear—not money.
We live in a time where anyone can start almost anything with close to zero cost. Information is everywhere. Tools are accessible.
Of course, starting something new still feels scary. You might need to invest your time and your effort. Sometimes even money gets involved.
I once bought a very expensive camera because I wanted to try vlogging—and then failed miserably at keeping it up. Embarrassing, yes. But the camera still works, and who knows, maybe I’ll use it again someday.
So yes, think carefully when you’re about to spend big. But if you already have the environment and tools to try something, why wait?
Timing does matter, but not in this case
Sometimes timing does matter. Like with my book. (Yes, this is a subtle reminder about my book😂🌱)
I’m publishing my first YA fantasy romance, The Princess and the Blade, next spring. The story takes place from late winter to early spring, which aligns nicely—but the timing is also strategic. Many students begin their long break around that time, which means more potential readers. Plus, release dates near Christmas are usually terrible unless your book is holiday-themed!🎄
So yes, timing can be critical for big projects.
But for the podcast? I knew that if I waited until January, or the “perfect moment,” I’d lose momentum. I’d done that before, and abandoned the project😭.
So when that spark came back, I just started. Right then, right away. No overthinking!
If You’re Reading This Now...
Whether you’re reading this at the end of the year or the start of a new one, let me ask you:
Is there something you’ve been wanting to start?
And if the cost isn’t too high—time, money, energy—why not take the first step now?
Maybe you want to:
write a book
learn to draw
start an art account
make an animation project
make a film
travel somewhere
build a small side project
anything at all
If the path is accessible, don’t wait for “the perfect time.” Just begin! A small first step is enough.
And maybe this blog—or the podcast episode—will give you a nudge to try.
So here’s my question to you:
What’s something you’ve always wanted to start? Did this inspire you to try something for the first time? Maybe this is your moment to start the project.
What’s Next?
So, how was the first episode? There’s only one up so far, but I plan to post weekly from now on, so I hope you’ll stick around!
And if you have topics you want me to cover, please let me know. I’d love to talk about things that matter to you!
